For Shavuot: Crude or Heavenly Oil?

Isn’t it interesting how the fate of the world hinges on its attitude to oil?

The oil which the world runs after is black, filthy, elemental and earthly. It is found underground, formed by extreme pressure working on dead organic matter, or can be made from sewage http://creationwiki.org/Oil_formation … and after digging, drilling and pumping, or creating in a laboratory, by man’s own considerable effort, sweat and expense. With it, we fuel our machinery and get energy to run our natural, earthly lives. We make war over oil, we manipulate, cheat and oppress the poor and innocent in order to get it, and we murder and steal from others to obtain it. The greed with which men run after this satanic, Mammon-producing, crude oil produces eternal death.

On the other hand, the Lord Jesus is the One who gives generously and freely to whoever asks Him for the gift of the Holy Spirit – the golden, holy, refined, Heavenly Oil, symbolized by olive oil which provided the oil needed to light the lamps in the Temple in Jerusalem. This is beaten out by man and crushed from olives, grown from a living tree, a symbol of Messiah Himself, Who, also by man, was

‘…pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed…’, (Isaiah 53:5)

He gives the Holy Spirit to whoever comes to Him and asks for life, and baptizes that one with Holy Spirit. He is the gift of Grace and man cannot earn or deserve Him. Those however who reject this priceless free gift and blaspheme the Holy Spirit, are rejecting Eternal Life Himself.
Anything which is to have eternal worth and duration must come, as God says in Zechariah 4:6 - ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.’

We are given the oil we want – but our eternal destiny hangs on which oil it is.
